Shooting at Howe Park Results in Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Sacramento County deputies are examining a gun violence incident that unfolded on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park as authorities were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement initially got calls about Howe Community Park at about 6:30 PM on April 18 after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, a second caller reported mentioning a potential altercation unfolding near the park.

A law enforcement helicopter was sent to survey the area but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, deputies found that several hundred individuals had gathered without authorization without authorization.

When the Shots Rang Out

Officers set about removing people from the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and announcing over their public address systems instructing the hundreds present to leave immediately. Around 15 minutes Howe Park Sacramento gunfire were allotted for the crowd to leave.

It was during this dispersal that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Law enforcement swiftly started locating gunshot victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men all reportedly in their 20s — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Hospital staff reported that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, each of the four victims was stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived on scene and helped care for those with gunshot wounds at the scene.

Crime Scene Evidence

The primary shooting scene was determined to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives found more spent casings along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were identified in the iron fence near the Home Depot store. These findings pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Reports confirmed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
